The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has just issued a Draft Amendments Notification for EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility). Here are 8 key takeaways that YOU should know:
1- Micro and small Enterprises Producers are now exempted from EPR liability obligations.
2- Every small and micro enterprise will have to mandatory register on the EPR portal. No more exemptions.
3- Plastic Manufacturers and Importers have to fulfill EPR liability for Micro and small Enterprises Producers.
4- A 5th category of Biodegradable plastics is now added to the existing 4 categories under EPR.
5- BIS shall prescribe separate color/marking for plastic packaging and commodities made from compostable and biodegradable plastics.
6- CPCB will be developing an online trading platform for the trading of EPR certificates between obligated parties.
7- Price caps are coming in – CPCB is set to fix the highest and lowest prices for EPR every 6 months, ensuring fair and equitable trade.
8- Municipal agencies and ULBs are set to share reports with the Central Government.
