How to Use
Enter the latitude, longitude and elevation for Point A and Point B, then select Calculate.
Azimuth is measured clockwise from true north at Point A. Straight-line distance is the three-dimensional distance between the two locations, while altitude angle is measured relative to the local horizontal plane at Point A.
For a geostationary satellite, select Geostationary satellite. Point B latitude is set to 0° and elevation to 35,786 km; enter the satellite longitude in the Point B longitude field.
Calculation basis: Geographic coordinates are converted to Earth-Centered, Earth-Fixed (ECEF) Cartesian coordinates using the WGS-84 ellipsoid. The vector from Point A to Point B is then transformed into the local East-North-Up (ENU) reference frame at Point A.
Coordinates: Latitude is positive north and negative south. Longitude is positive east and negative west. Elevation is entered in metres relative to the WGS-84 reference ellipsoid.
Azimuth: Reported clockwise from true north from 0° to less than 360°.
Altitude angle: Positive values indicate a target above the local horizon; negative values indicate a target below the local horizon.
Geostationary option: Uses latitude 0° and an approximate geostationary altitude of 35,786 km above the reference ellipsoid.
