Magnesium Calculator
Definition: Magnesium is one of the principal ions contributing to water hardness. It can be estimated from the difference between total hardness and calcium hardness.
Magnesium Hardness =
Total Hardness − Calcium Hardness
Magnesium (mg/L as Mg) = Magnesium Hardness × 0.243
Magnesium (mg/L as Mg) = Magnesium Hardness × 0.243
Total hardness and calcium hardness must both be entered in mg/L as CaCO₃.
Method basis: Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, 3500-Mg — Calculation Method. Total hardness may be determined by Method 2340 C and calcium by the applicable calcium determination method.
