Method: Available wind power is calculated as P = ½ × ρ × A × v³, where ρ is air density, A is rotor swept area and v is wind speed.

For a horizontal-axis turbine: A = πD² / 4. For a vertical-axis turbine: A = D × H.

Estimated output = Available wind power × Cp × (1 − system losses).

This calculator estimates power at a single entered wind speed. Actual turbine output should be determined from the manufacturer’s power curve because Cp, generator efficiency, cut-in speed, rated power and control behaviour vary with wind speed.
