Introduction |
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a policy approach that shifts the responsibility for the end-of-life management of products to the producers of those products. This means that producers are financially and operationally responsible for the collection, recycling, and disposal of their products after they have been used by consumers. In India, the Plastic Waste Management (PWM) Rules, 2016 require producers, importers, and brand owners (PIBOs) of plastic packaging to register with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and obtain an EPR certificate. |
